Solis, Ballance Brothers spark Eagles win

Falling to (2-3), the Chargers hoped to rally back against the (2-2) Eagles who took to the court missing three key starters for their JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Flag Football week four clash. Clearly undermanned, the Eagles’ offense turned to their ball control playbook as short passes to Erik Solis and Ryan Ballance quickly set up Chris Ballance’s 20 yard TD grab. Down 6-0, the Chargers played longball as James Johnson reeled in a zone to zone TD strike and after a Jaden Subacz two point catch the Chargers took an early 8-6 advantage. Once again, using pin point passing and determined running, the Eagles made it 14-8 on a text book screen pass and a wire to wire run by Ryan Ballance followed by a James Bajor two point catch. As dropped passes added to mounting frustration for the Chargers’ offense, the Eagles’ offense just kept grinding out points as Ryan Ballance and James Bajor made it 22-8 on Ballance’s second TD reception and Bajor’s second two point play. With their backs to the wall, the Chargers stumbled again as the Eagles’ Ryan Ballance picked off a pass and returned it to the Chargers’ 15 yard line. One play later, the Eagles stretched their lead to 30-8 on a James Bajor TD catch and Chris Ballance’s two point catch. After being their own worst enemy all game long, the Chargers’ offense finally settled down as Jaden Subacz and Kevin Aguilar hauled in two TD passes to cut the Eagles’ lead to 30-20. Heading down the stretch, the Chargers’ defense also stepped up as Kasper Hooks and Jalen Nash helped bottle up the Eagles’ attack. With time fading, the Chargers had one last offensive surge but once again dropped passes sealed their fate as the Eagles notched a 30-20 victory.
