Former Union City Town Commissioner, teacher, and county freeholder candidate Jose Falto passed away over the holiday weekend, friends told the media on Saturday. He was 64.
Falto was a vocal critic of State Sen./Mayor Brian Stack and ran unsuccessfully against Stack’s candidate for freeholder in the June Democratic primary. He was also a Spanish teacher and then a guidance counselor in the Union City school district.
Reports said that Falto died of a heart attack.
According to the local daily newspaper, “Mildred Diaz, who identified herself today as Falto’s life partner, hopes people will remember him for the educator that he was and not for his political rivalry with Stack. ‘People should remember Jose for all the young people that he mentored, his dream was to educate people and help the community’ said Diaz, who has lived with Falto for the past 16 years.”
