Dear Editor:
The only power you have on this planet is the power of your decisions. An important decision will be made by the citizens of Hoboken on Tuesday, November 4. By now, many have heard the issues affecting our Board of Education. As incumbent board members, Frances Rhodes Kearns and I have served independently, constantly on the lookout to make sure monies are spent inside the classrooms and not toward non-educational spending. We represent experience and fiscal accountability.
It is interesting that the week before the election Mayor Zimmer sat down with one slate of candidates for the board but did not reach out to all the candidates including two incumbents. Fran and I have stood against the board majority regarding the lawsuit against the Hola Charter School and how that money should be spent in the classroom instead of the courtroom. We have spent years supporting the positive progress in our schools and objecting to the mishandling of our educational system under Kids First.
With this said, we hope to continue being the voices of reason on the board. I remind the public that Fran and I are the only two board representatives against the political machine in power. Absolute power without checks and balances can cause even honest people to behave badly. I urge the citizens of Hoboken to come out Tuesday and vote 4H and 8H, for the education of all children.
Sincerely,
Peter Biancamano
Hoboken Board of Education Member
