How will the expanded waste dump impact our schools?

Dear Editor:
Thank you for publishing my letter regarding the Greenville Yards waste dump expansion. I want to respond to the recent updates on this news item.
Though the Mayor has squashed his plan to bring more trash into Greenville due to apparent political and public pressure, it still troubles me greatly that this plan was even proposed by the Mayor and passed by the Fulop-controlled council majority. Where are the gatekeepers protecting the people and children of Jersey City?
The gatekeepers are also absent at the Jersey City Board of Education. The Fulop-elected school board renewed the contract for the private substitute teacher firm despite complaints of sleeping, drunk and negligent subs being sent to our classrooms – two weeks ago a 3rd grader was viciously slapped by one of these subs. They turned a blind eye to the lack of security in our schools – there are still schools lacking security guards even after an intruder accessed the pre-k trailer at PS41 three weeks ago. And they have no answers when questioned about the rundown, crumbling and crowded conditions in most of our school buildings.
Lorenzo Richardson (1H), Gina Verdibello (5H) and Gerald Lyons (7H) – The Children First Team – are the gatekeepers we need on the Jersey City Board of Education. They have a proven track-record of fighting to protect the children of Jersey City Public Schools. On November 4th, I’ll be voting for them and I hope you will to.
