A doctor who returned to the United States from Guinea 10 days ago has tested positive for ebola Thursday night. The doctor, Craig Spencer, 33, who had been working for Doctors without Borders in West Africa, had been “self monitoring” while sick at home in New York City for the last few days. Thursday, his fever reached 103 and he was taken by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital. His symptoms had only arisen recently. Spencer was employed at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital but had not been back to work since returning.
Until late September, the virus had been contained abroad. However, a man in Liberia brought it to Texas when visiting relatives in Houston in late September. That man has since died, and two medical workers who helped him became sick, but have recovered.
This new case is unrelated to those.
