Farmers’ market extends season four more weeks

The Bayonne Farmers’ Market, located on Del Monte Drive between 23rd and 24th streets each Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m., has extended its season, which was due to end later this month.

The market will now be open until Nov. 25, but only until 6 p.m. after Oct. 28.

Bayonne downtown fair draws thousands

The city held its first Bergen Point Fall Festival to celebrate businesses in the neighborhood on Oct. 18, and residents responded by attending in the thousands.

The fair was held from just below the 8th Street overpass to the corner of 5th Street and Broadway.
A crowd of between 2,000 and 3,000 people was estimated, said Bayonne Chief Financial Officer Terrence Malloy, also head of the city’s Urban Enterprise Zone, which partially funded the event.
Music, food, and all kinds of family entertainment were available, as well as vendors selling everything from children’s toys to gourmet coffee. The Mona Lisa restaurant set up tables on the street for al fresco dining.
The event was hosted by the Bergen Point merchants and the UEZ.

STEM wing of Bayonne High School academy opens

The STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) wing of Bayonne High School’s Academy for Fine Arts and Academics officially opened on Oct. 17.

Board of Education and city officials, past and present, attended.
Former mayor Mark Smith was commended by Mayor James Davis, Schools Superintendent Patricia McGeehan, and Academy Coordinator Laura Craig for being a force behind the academy’s creation.
BCB Community Bank, CarePoint Health, and International Matex Tank Terminals, which each donated $50,000 for specific STEM programs, were honored at the ceremony.
The STEM ribbon cutting, on the high school’s third floor, followed the ribbon cutting last year of the academy’s fine and performing arts track on the second floor.
