Hoboken school board candidates to appear at Elks Lodge forum

HOBOKEN — On Wednesday, Hoboken voters will have a chance to hear from at least some of the candidates in the upcoming election for three Board of Education seats. All of the candidates have been invited to answer questions from the public at a Candidates’ Forum organized by the Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition and The Elks on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Elks Lodge at 1005 Washington St. Admission is free.
The Hoboken QLC typically organizes forums for mayoral, City Council, and school board races. Questions for the candidates are written by the audience on index cards supplied at the door. The cards are collected and presented to a three-person panel that reviews them and passes the selected questions on to the moderator Bob Bowdon. Each candidate will also give prepared opening and closing statements.
According to Helen Manogue of the Hoboken QLC, four candidates, Peter Biancamano and Frances Rhodes-Kearns from the Education for all Children slate and Lynn Danzker and Brian Murray from the Parents for Change slate have confirmed that they will be in attendance. In an email to the Hoboken Reporter, Monica Stromwall, who is running on the Parents for Progress slate and managing its campaign, said she and her running mates would be unable to attend do to scheduling conflicts.
For those who cannot attend, the forum will be videotaped and may be viewed later on Hoboken’s Cablevision Channel 78.
