Save the date to save our neighborhoods

Dear Editor:
The Hudson County Freeholder Board will vote on the Monarch development on Tuesday, October 28th at 6 p.m. The location of the meeting is the Freeholder Chambers on the 3rd floor of the Hudson County Administration Annex, located at 567 Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City.
Join me in urging the Hudson County Freeholders to uphold the Hudson County Planning Board’s rejection of the Monarch development. The Monarch plan conflicts with the original intention for the area which is for public use, including a waterfront walkway, tennis courts, and additional parking for all residents to enjoy.
Building two high-rise towers on a pier at 15th Street and the Hudson River will put an additional strain on our city’s roadways, sewage, and public transportation systems. Many residents – including the entire City Council, the City Administration and the Hoboken Fund for a Better Waterfront – oppose this project, because we believe it will negatively impact our city’s quality of life.
Hoboken is consistently named as one of the best cities to live in, and that is largely due to our commitment to preserving our open spaces and quality of life. That is why I encourage you to attend this meeting and urge the Freeholder Board to vote against the Monarch project.
Given the level of interest on the upcoming vote, I have requested that the October 28th meeting take place in Hoboken. Hosting the meeting in Hoboken will ensure those affected by the project will have their voices heard. I will update residents with the Freeholder Board’s response when I receive it.
If you need transportation to the meeting on October 28th, please do not hesitate to contact me at (201)-916-8244 or Beth@MasonCityCouncil.org.

Thank you for your time.
Beth Mason
City Council Representative 2nd Ward
