The first day of school on Sept. 6 for the 250 students of the St. Augustine’s school of Union City was one of meeting teachers, making new friends, and praying together.
The night before parents and teachers met and discussed the upcoming school year’s curriculum for each grade level, PreK 3 and 4 up to and including eighth grade.
The school, at 3920 Newark Ave. in Union City, is affiliated with the Newark Archdiocese. It was founded in 1891 and is staffed by Sisters of Charity and lay teachers, according to Sr. Johanna Quinto, their development director. The multi-intelligence school has twp science labs, a computer lab, an art room, smart boards in every classroom, and the students attend religion class every day.
After-school activities include clubs for cooking, knitting, crocheting, glee club, track, marketing, the school band, and the peacemakers club.
Sounds like a busy year ahead!
