A mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 2 at St. Aedan’s Church for Maryann Calabrese, 76. She passed away on Sept. 29. Born in Hoboken, Maryann moved to Jersey City after she married and has been a resident since then. She has owned and operated the Astor Bar in Jersey City since 1976 and was still very active as a cook and in its daily operation. Maryann was predeceased by her husband Angelo Calabrese and her son, Joseph Calabrese. She was the mother of Deborah Costa and her husband Christopher, Margaret Calabrese, Gina Brocco and her husband Marc and Anthony Pascarella. Maryann is also survived by her brother Joseph Ackilli and his wife Doris and well as many nieces, nephews and friends throughout the community.
