Bayonne man killed in N.J. Turnpike accident
A truck driver killed Friday, Sept. 26 on the New Jersey Turnpike has been identified by police as Robert Johnston, 54, of Bayonne, according to NJ.com.
Johnston was killed when his truck struck a wrecked Jeep and overturned, the news agency said on Sept. 29.
Thomas Andrews, 58, of Keyport, the Jeep driver, had lost control and crashed his vehicle into the median on the northbound lanes in Ridgefield Park, police said. Johnston was unable to stop his tractor trailer in time and hit the Jeep.
Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
Author Judith Valente, a Bayonne native who is a Midwest correspondent for PBS-TV, will speak Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish in Bayonne, 4th Street and Broadway.
Bayonne native to address information age
Her presentation will be “Contemplation in the Age of Twitter.”
Valente will address how people can become “everyday contemplatives” in a world filled with increasing demands and distractions. She will show how those with busy schedules can utilize the practice of listening to learn “the art of pausing.”
Valente’s presentation is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow the event.

Professional group selects Daniel Herrera for honor
Daniel Herrera, vice chairman of the Hudson County Republican Club Young Professionals, has been chosen an honored member of the National Association of Distinguished Professionals. The selection recognizes Daniel Herrera’s commitment to excellence in politics.
Herrera was a candidate for the First Ward City Council seat in the spring. He is currently serving as campaign manager for independent Hudson County Freeholder candidate Michael Alonso.
Herrera is in charge of daily operations for the campaign.

Performing Arts School offers theater classes for special needs students
The bergenPAC Performing Arts School is offering dance, music, and drama classes for children aged 2 to 18 with special needs.
Courses will run from Oct. 6 to June 14. They will be offered in collaboration with Renee Redding-Jones of The Center for Life and Learning. Small classes are taught by trained and experienced professionals.
Free trial cources are being offered Oct. 6 to 11.
