Bayonne’s Hispanic Parade celebrates culture

BAYONNE – Hundreds of residents celebrated their Spanish culture – and hundreds more came out to cheer them on – during the city’s annual Hispanic Day Parade up Broadway on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Bright costumes, lively music, and smiles – plenty of smiles – were the order of the day during the observance that celebrates Bayonne’s two dozen or so Hispanic ethnic groups.
Councilman Juan Perez, the parade’s grand marshal, was beaming prior to the parade’s commencement at Fifth street and Broadway at 1:30 p.m., lauding the sunny day with temperatures in the low 80s. Perez is the city’s second councilperson of Latin heritage.
Flags representing Puerto Rico, Colombia, and many other countries were proudly displayed by marchers making their way up to the parade’s end point at 23rdStreet. –Joseph Passantino
