Family Health Fair Set for Oct. 4 at St. Joseph of the Palisades Church

Palisades Medical Center and St. Joseph of the Palisades Church are teaming up to sponsor a Family Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Joseph of the Palisades Church in West New York from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will feature free health screenings and information, as well as free activities and attractions for children.
All health screenings and evaluations are open to the public and will be provided free of charge. Health information will be provided in English and Spanish and bi-lingual medical professionals will be on hand to answer questions. Health tests and screenings will include blood pressure, peak flow, heart rate and percentage of oxygen in the blood, body mass index, eye exams for glaucoma and vision, hearing tests and breast exams.
The fair will also feature many games and activities for children, including face painting, a bounce house, and more. St. Joseph of the Palisades Church is located at 6401 Palisade Ave. in West New York. For more information, please call Joanne Riggs at (201) 854-5793.

Sen. Menendez hosting annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

U.S. Senator Robert Menendez will host his annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. in the Union City High School.
This year’s theme will be “Nuestra Voz Cuenta – Our Voice Matters.” Renowned journalist Jorge Ramos, anchor of “Noticiero Univision” and host of Fusion’s “America” will deliver the keynote address. Lizette Delgado-Polanco, executive director of SEIU New Jersey State Council, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies. The event will be filled with music, dance and culture highlighting the community’s contributions to New Jersey and the nation. Hispanic Heritage Month serves as an opportunity to honor and celebrate the presence of Hispanics and their influence and ingenuity in the arts, sciences, armed forces and the fabric of America. Union City High School is at 2500 Kennedy Blvd.

German-American Association hosting bus trip to Amish country

The German-American World Friendship Association is hosting an all-day deluxe bus excursion to Amish country on Thursday, Oct. 16. Travelers will leave from the Senator Lounge, Schuetzen Park, 3167 Kennedy Blvd. at 8 a.m. and stop for an all-you-can-eat luncheon at the Good ‘N Plenty Restaurant in Smoketown, Pa. From there they will enjoy a two-hour guided tour of the Amish farmlands. Refreshments will be served on the bus.
The trip is open to the public on a first-come basis at $70 each for adults and $60 each for children ages 4 to 12 years. To reserve a spot call (201) 751-4452. P.F. Chang’s to paint warrior horses pink for breast cancer awareness

What do sushi, selfies, and pink horses have in common? Find out on Sept. 30 at P.F. Chang’s in West New York, as the restaurant joins the fight against breast cancer to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). Representatives from Palisades Medical Center will be on hand to hand out important health information and free giveaway items. In a show of nationwide support for the cause, each P.F. Chang’s location in the continental U.S. will be hosting a celebratory “Paint P.F. Chang’s Pink” rally event, inviting employees, breast cancer survivors, and the greater community to participate in kicking off the campaign by painting the restaurants’ 317 iconic 11-foot warrior horses pink for the month of October.
P.F. Chang’s is at 10 Port Imperial Blvd. The event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Fall flea market upcoming at Our Lady of Fatima

Macy’s job fair coming to North Bergen Public Library

Macy’s logistics and operations in Secaucus is seeking talented individuals for seasonal picking and packing positions and will have a job fair at the North Bergen Public Library, 8411 Bergenline Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Associates are responsible to receive, put away, pick, pack, and ship merchandise in a safe, productive and accurate manner. Associates will be cross-trained in multiple areas.
