Bayonne City Hall is the site of Drug Take-Back Day

BAYONNE – The Bayonne Police Department will offer residents the opportunity to turn in unused, unwanted, and expired medicine on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the main entrance to City Hall, 630 Avenue C, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., city officials said.
“National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is an effective way of improving the safety of our residents and our environment,” Mayor James Davis said. “I urge everyone to check their medicine cabinets and other storage places to find prescription medications that should be turned in.”
“By participating, Bayonne residents will be taking a step to prevent the potential misuse and abuse of prescription medications,” said Police Chief Drew Niekrasz. “Our police officers will ensure that medications are collected safely and disposed of properly. At the start of the autumn season, this is an opportune time to clean out your medicine cabinet.”
All medications will be accepted. All participants have the right to remain anonymous and to remove patients’ names from medication bottles. In fact, law enforcement agencies encourage the public to remove prescription labels that contain any personal information to reduce the risk of identity theft. People have the option of turning in medications within bottles, or dumping out pills into receptacles at the collection site.
Syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.
Unwanted prescription drugs should not be flushed down the toilet or thrown into the trash, because doing so poses potential safety and health hazards, officials said.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has organized the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in partnership with the Bayonne Police Department.
