WEEHAWKEN — NJ.com reported Monday that the Weehawken kid who was arrested in March for scaling 1 World Trade Center has just been arrested again — this time for allegedly breaking into the historic Weehawken Water Tower on Park Avenue.
If the story is true, two things may be apparent: 1) No, he hasn’t learned his lesson, and 2) Apparently, the Weehawken police are paying better attention (or getting better tips) than the WTC security guards were this past spring.
In March, a Weehawken 16-year-old posted photos of himself climbing to the top of the WTC while a security guard slept. The building was still under construction.
NJ.com reported on Monday, “Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino confirmed that a 16-year-old was arrested that night at Park Avenue and 41st Street in Weehawken, the site of the water tower, but he would not release the name because of his age…The teen and two others apparently jumped a fence and broke into the brick tower before police arrived, the source said.”
The prosecutor apparently would not confirm, for the record, that the teen was the same one who scaled the WTC.
The teen who scaled the WTC pleaded guilty in July to a misdemeanor and served 23 days of community service.
Maybe this time he can hang out by the water tower and shoo all the pigeons.
