DEVITO, PHILLIP PETER

A funeral service was conducted Aug. 29 for Phillip Peter DeVito, 91, of Brick Township. He passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Point Pleasant Beach on Aug. 26 surrounded by his family. Mr. DeVito retired 33 years ago as a Captain in the Union City Fire Department after 27 years of service. He was a US Army Veteran during WWII from 1943 – 1946. He attended the Calvary Lighthouse Church in Lakewood. Mr. DeVito was a member of the Elks Lodge 2151 in Brick, the American Legion in Brick and the Walking Club of Monmouth County. Mr. DeVito loved to fish, crab and most of all spend time with his family and friends.
Born in Lyndhurst, he lived in New York City, then moved back to Union City before retiring in Brick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Palma “Pam” DeVito in 1987; brother, Joseph DeVito; and sister, Marion Romanazzi. Surviving are his sons, Phillip D. Devito and his partner, William Bena of Carteret, and Michael DeVito of Toms River; daughter Diane Crutchfield and her husband, Wayne of Point Pleasant Beach; sister, Ann Incognito and her husband, Michael of Ridgefield; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He also leaves his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services arranged by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick Township.
