Greek Festival to feature entertainment by Teddy’s Place co-owner
Many will be saying “Opa!” when the annual Jersey City Greek Festival is held on Saturday, Sept. 6, from noon to midnight, and Sunday, Sept. 7, from noon to 8 p.m., at the Evangelismos Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 661 Montgomery St, Jersey City.
Admission to the festival is free.
Entertainment will be provided by “Pete the Greek” Chatzopoulos, co-owner of Teddy’s Place in Bayonne, who will be the event’s DJ. Chatzopoulos will spin a mix of Greek and American music.
Saturday night’s festivities, referred to as Taverna Night, will feature an indoor bar and several food stands. The Saint Demetrious Greek Orthodox Youth Dancers from Perth Amboy will treat attendees to a display of authentic Greek dancing in native costumes, performing between 8:30 and 10 p.m. that night.
A variety of homemade Greek dishes will be offered, including pastries, loukoumades, souvlaki sandwiches, and Greek platters. Ouzo and an assortment of Greek beers and wines will also be available. Sweets can be purchased at the bakery in the church’s Elenion Community Center. A tent will be available for outside dining.
Free parking for attendees will be available behind the church, as well as an overflow lot at Saint Peter’s University, Montgomery Street and Jordan Avenue, across from the Jersey City Armory and one block from the festival.
Proceeds will benefit the cultural and community programs of the church, which serves Hudson County’s Greek Orthodox community.
