St. John’s

Dear Editor:
Thank you for your report in the Union City Reporter “Historic church to become special needs housing” last week!
It is unfortunate that the after school program had to be discontinued to make room for the new developer renovating the space for “special needs / low income housing”. Hopefully the community programs will be able to continue in the sanctuary, as arts at St. John’s has been faithfully operated out of the church’s sanctuary (and the annex) for a few years now and brought quality programs to the community.
I attended the meeting with the developers and viewed the plans for the proposed new housing units.
According to Mayor Stack’s announcement to the community, it was supposed to be only the “rear separate building” that would be converted into the housing units. I have and still am opposed to the 4 apartments that have been approved by the zoning board which are planned underneath the sanctuary! I don’t care how poor or handicapped anyone is, it is not a place for anyone to live below the sidewalk!

Respectfully,
Union City
