Dear Editor:
Below is an open thank-you letter from Chief Edelmiro Garcia and PO Daniel Simone III to those who helped put together Hoboken’s National Night Out 2014: Hoboken Police Chief Garcia would like to thank many who were responsible for making the 2014 Hoboken Police Department’s National Night Out possible.
On Tuesday, August 5th, our department held its annual National Night Out Against Crime and Drugs at Church Square Park located on 4th and Garden Street. Over 1500 residents of all ages and from all parts of town joined the police department for a festive night which focused on bringing the police and community together. The event was coordinated by Sgt. Melissa Gigante and a number of Hoboken Police Department personnel. All members brought a great line-up of activities, demonstrations which kept everyone enjoying the entire night.
The night would not have been possible without the many contributors and participants. Chief Garcia and Sgt. Melissa Gigante would like to thank the following contributors: the City of Hoboken Mayor Zimmer and administration, Inserra Shop-Rite for their donation of the food, water and supplies which helped satisfy everyone’s appetites, A&P for the their donations, Fun Time Entertainment for doing a masterful job, the U.S. Army National Guard for their time in coming and providing a football toss and table, the Hoboken Fire Department for their Jaws of Life presentation under the direction of Capt. Ray Martinez and for their fire prevention station coordinated by Inspector Andrew Frey, Mile Square Towing for their donation of a car for the Jaws of Life Presentation, the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Tom Molta for their CPR and first-aid demonstrations that had a crowd of children around it all night, New Jersey Transit Police, the Port Authority Police Department. We would like to send a special thank you to 103.5 KTU and their morning show host Cindy Vero along with DJ Taz (Santos) and Kelly Frey, community businesses as well as our local sports teams, LOVE Dogs, Rita’s Italian Ice for their assistance during National Night Out. The night wouldn’t have been possible without assistance from the City of Hoboken OEM, the Hoboken Parks Department, City of Hoboken employees and the Demarest School for the utilization of their building along with Director Tim Calligy and staff. The members of the Hoboken Police Department, especially the event coordinators, want to send a special thank you to every resident who attended the evening’s celebration. Special Thanks to PO Daniel Simone III, PO Charles Kucz, PO Elias Colon, Detective Jonathan Mecka, Detective Edward Lepre, PO Juan Madera and PO Matthew Isler of the Hoboken Police Department.
