NORTH BERGEN – North Bergen Mayor and State Senator Nicholas Sacco completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge today at the North Bergen Public Library, receiving two buckets full of ice water as a large crowd cheered him on. The mayor was doused by Library Director Sai Rao and Board of Education Trustee Julio Marenco, both of whom later received buckets of their own. Mayor Sacco made a donation of $500 from the nonprofit Nicholas J. Sacco Foundation and many other spectators and participants chipped in with their own donations as well.
“This is for a great cause and I hope that someday this terrible disease can be cured,” said Mayor Sacco before nominating Marenco, Commissioner Hugo Cabrera, and Wayne Zitt (Chief of Staff to Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez) for the challenge. “I am happy to help raise awareness and urge everyone to join the fight against ALS.”
