BROKING, CHIEF JOHN P.

A funeral liturgy was performed Aug. 14 at St John’s Church, Lakehurst, for Chief John P. Broking, 83, of Manchester. He passed away Aug. 10 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Jersey City, he was raised and spent most of his life in Guttenberg before moving to Manchester 10 years ago. He was Chief of Police for Guttenberg Police Dept. for 27 years where he touched many lives and hearts before retiring in 1996. He served in the Marines during Korea from 1952-1960.
He was a lifetime and gold member and also the past president for several years for the Chief of Police Association in Hudson County, and the Silverton Retired Police and Fireman’s Association.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Anne H,; three brothers, Richard and wife Dolores, Raymond and wife Betty and David; nephews Raymond, Michael, Christopher, Scott, Brian, and niece Ellen and also three great nephews, Luke, Trevor and Casey. Services arranged by the Oliverie Funeral Home, Manchester.
