Former NYC Mayor David Dinkins joins celebration at WNY church

WEST NEW YORK – Gethsemane Baptist Church in West New York celebrated its 108th anniversary with a very special guest on Sunday, Aug. 3. Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins was on hand to speak to the congregation.
Dinkins, the first African-American to hold the post of mayor in New York City, also served as the city clerk, the Manhattan borough president, and on the New York state assembly.
Gethsemane Baptist Church, which first opened its doors in October 1906, is located at 6019 Madison St. in West New York. Anniversary festivities are expected to run until the end of October.
