BAYONNE – Three city men admitted to their roles in a racketeering conspiracy through their participation in an illegal online gambling enterprise, according to a press release from the United States Attorney, District of New Jersey, on July 30.
Mark A. Sanzo, 56, Robert J. Scerbo, 56, and William A. Bruder, 44, all of Bayonne, each pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi in Newark federal court to separate information charging them with one count of racketeering conspiracy, according to the release from the office of U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.
According to documents filed for the case and court statements:
Beteagle.com was a website located in Costa Rica and allegedly used to facilitate illegal online sports betting in northern New Jersey and elsewhere. Sanzo, Scerbo, and Bruder each admitted, according to the release, that they conspired with the criminal enterprise to commit racketeering acts; the illegal sports betting operation, and that they and their co-conspirators profited from this criminal venture.
At their sentencings, Sanzo, Scerbo and Bruder each face a maximum potential punishment of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, the release further stated. Sentencing for Sanzo is scheduled for Sept. 19; for Scerbo, Sept. 20; and for Bruder, Nov. 13.
All defendants were previously released on bail.
