NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced on Tuesday that a new off-site video replay center will be located in Secaucus. The NBA will begin testing the system soon and it will be used beginning in September to assist referees in making decisions during games.
Currently the referees use monitors at courtside to review questionable plays. The new system will establish a “command center” to provide assistance with instant replay decisions.
Sports Illustrated quotes Silver as saying, “In essence, it will give our officials the assistance of a replay center in Secaucus, N.J., where they will be able to cue up the plays, with the best angles on the court. The decision will still lie with the officials at the game on the court.”
