Residents voice concerns over Bayonne Bridge construction work

BAYONNE – Dozens attended a meeting held to address the concerns of city residents about the Raise the Roadway project currently under way by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The roadway is being raised approximately 65 feet to allow bigger ships now involved with international commerce to sail under the bridge.
The meeting, planned by City Council President Sharon Nadrowski and First Ward Councilman Thomas Cotter, was held at the city’s downtown constituent office at 174 Broadway. Both council members attended, along with Mayor James Davis and two representatives of Bayonne’s Law Department.
Participants complained of a multitude of problems they say have been associated with the project, including house-shaking vibrations, loud noises, pollutants, health issues, and a scarcity of parking.
Mayor Davis briefed those gathered about his recent meeting with the Port Authority and the city’s efforts to have as many of the problems as possible mitigated. – Joseph Passantino
