Birth of our nation

Dear Editor:
The great American patriot Thomas Paine once wrote, “These are times that try men’s souls.” His words today are more meaningful than ever.
The famous words of Nathan Hale, a 21 yr. old school teacher about to be hung, “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.” Patrick Henry’s rousing speech, ending with, “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
Times of course, have change since 1776, but basic objectives do not change.
From the pen of William Tyler Page: “I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.”
The Betsy Ross 13 star flag rose over our original colonies and today we have 50 stars covering our continent and abroad, it has gained this proud position by love and sacrifice.
Give it a thought on your country’s birthday.
