Bajor baffles Devils as Penguins roll

Like a Yankees vs. Red Sox rivalry, the JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division Floor Hockey foes the (2-1) Penguins, and the (2-1) Devils always seem to be clashing when the stakes are high. With first place on the line, a packed house waited for a heavyweight brawl but after 15 minutes, only one team seemed ready for the spotlight. Racing out to a 4-0 advantage, the Penguins’ Colin Woods (one goal), Julian Giron (1 goal, 1 assist), Cee Jay Larino (2 goals, 1 assist), and Mackenzie Woods (2 assists) ruled the stage right from the opening whistle. Also fueling the Penguins’ buzz saw start was the incredible defensive efforts of James Bajor in net and defensemen Julian Giron and Marek Mickiewicz as they kept the high scoring Devils’ offense in check. Leading all scorers with 9 points on the season the Devils’ team captain Jake Nowak finally hit his mark as he teamed up with J. P. Egan as the “Twin Engines” made it 4-1 on a Nowak wristshot. Once they got on the board, the fiery Devils kept the heat on as Megan Feeley, Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes, Elliott Santana, and Ryan Giocoli each put shots on net but Bajor and the rest of the Penguins’ defense weathered the storm. With their scoring woes continuing, the Devils found themselves under attack as scoring blasts from Colin Woods (2 goals) and Mackenzie Woods (1 goal) put the Penguins up 7-1 with time ticking away. Inspite of the seven goals surrendered, the Devils’ net guru Matt Doyle put forth an amazing effort by totaling 17 saves. With the game and first place, well in hand, the Penguins ruled the day with a 7-1 victory.
