To the Editor:
At Grace Lutheran Church in Bayonne we recently concluded a four-day Vacation Bible School adventure, “Gangway to Galilee.” Our time together focused on the many ways that God saves us but on the last day it focused on how God saves us through other people. To do this, we invited the police and fire departments of Bayonne, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Emergency Services to show us how this takes place in a very real way. God does rescue us through others, and I cannot think of a better way of demonstrating that than through these agencies.
We, at Grace Lutheran, would like to personally thank the City of Bayonne Fire Department and Chief Gregory Rogers for providing a ladder truck and battalion vehicle, the City of Bayonne Police Department and Chief Ralph Scianni for providing a squad car and motorcycle vehicle, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Commander Patty Espejo for her presence at our final event, and special thanks to McGruff, the crime dog, for being with us as well.
We would also like to thank McCabe’s Ambulance and founder and president H. Mickey McCabe for having a unit on site for the children to look at. With the nautical theme of this year’s VBS, a big word of thanks to the Bayonne High School carpentry class of 2014 for providing the “larger than a breadbox” boat for this event and Ken Poesl and Ken’s Marine for delivering the 38-foot Norwegian sailing vessel by land.
We live in a great city, a city whose true greatness is measured by the number of hands it takes to live together. How about a hand for the City of Bayonne!!
