A funeral mass was offered June 21 at St. Vincent’s RC Church, Bayonne, for Denise Anne Cintron Fedor of Weehawken. She passed away June 16, surrounded by loved ones who had maintained a vigil at her hospital bedside for six weeks. Denise struggled valiantly against illness and was an inspiration to many. Denise was born in Jersey City and was a charming and precocious child whose demeanor earned her the nickname “The British” from her Uncle Flavio Trujillo. She resided in Jersey City and later Secaucus and Weehawken.
A voracious reader, she attended Hudson County and LaGuardia Community Colleges, excelling in English Literature and Drama. She worked in marketing for Sunshine Advertising in Hoboken. Prior to that she worked in the administration of Mayor Richard Turner.
Denise was a talented actor and director. Her production of the drama “Nuts” earned her an enthusiastic review by the NY Times and ABC News. As an ardent feminist and gifted writer, she revised “Twelve Angry Men” into a coed “Twelve Angry Jurors” for the Jersey City Community Awareness Series. She starred in “Nuts,” which was performed at the Hudson County Courthouse to rave reviews. She co-starred in “Barefoot in the Park” at the Park Theater with her future husband. They also performed in a revival of “A Christmas Carol” off-Broadway. Denise starred in many of L. Robert Johnson’s productions for the Hudson County Shakespeare Company. Her charming ways and gift for inspiring people were instrumental in her founding the Patchwork Theater Company, Groundwork Productions and The Plays the Thing Theater Company. Her natural joie de vivre and gift for teaching inspired children she instructed in skits as part of the VBS program at the First Reformed Church of Secaucus and also at Grace Episcopal Church in Union City, which is still flourishing after many years.
A devout Catholic, Denise had a deep and abiding faith in God that sustained her. She was planning a trip to the Shrine of Our Lady in Lourdes, France and had already visited the shrines of St. Padre Pio in PA and St. Frances Cabrini in NYC, at which she had witnessed a miracle. She was the soul mate of 24 years of Joseph Fedor; daughter of Anne (nee: Scala) and the late Manuel Cintron, Jr.; sister of Roxanne Cintron {Rev. Richard Patterson}, Charlene Cintron {Victor Fekete}, Pamela Orlando Michniewicz {Chip Michniewicz}, and M. Gary Cintron {Dorothy Daidone}. Aunt of Robert Orlando {Kim Moeltner}, Adam Orlando {Lindsay Brizzi}, Christopher Fekete, Marc Cintron, Nina Cintron and Lia Cintron, and four grand-nephews. Niece of R. Peggy Scala, A. Eleanor Fitzgerald, Alba C. Trujillo, William Cintron, Edward Scala and Anthony Scala, their spouses and children. She also leaves to mourn friends, including Carol and Art Kimmey and Gil Corby, who never left her side. Services arranged by the G. Keenen O’Brien Funeral Home, Bayonne.
