Bayonne Bridge northbound lanes to temporarily close on Thursday, June 26 at 11 a.m.

BAYONNE – The Bayonne Bridge will be temporarily closed in the northbound direction from 11 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, to allow work to proceed on the “Raise the Roadway” project. Southbound traffic will not be affected.
Motorists are urged to use the Goethals Bridge as an alternative during the closure.
Contractors will perform demolition activities on a concrete toll island adjacent to the Bayonne Bridge’s northbound lanes during the brief closure.
Due to the proximity of motorists to the work area, all traffic heading from Staten Island into Bayonne will be stopped to safely complete the work. The duration of the northbound prohibition is expected to last about 40 minutes.
The $1.3 billion Bayonne Bridge project is designed to raise the navigational clearance under the crossing to 215 feet to allow larger, modern ships to travel under it. It is also slated to provide commuters with a modern roadway with 12-foot lanes, shoulders, a median and a 12-foot shared bike and pedestrian path.
