Recap of Hoboken Little League action

Here’s a rundown of recent Little League play.

 

MARIO’S PIZZA drops CASSESA’S 8-5

 

MARIO’S PIZZA pulled out the win thanks to a strong third inning. A groundout by JADEN OLIVIERI scored SHEPARD SWIFT and gave MARIO’S PIZZA the lead for good. SAWYER KRON put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for MARIO’S PIZZA. He doubled in the third inning and tripled in the fourth inning. ANDREW WHOLF got the win in relief for MARIO’S PIZZA. ANDREW pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed two runs. SAWYER, ANDREW, HUDSON PORADA and SSHEPARD helped lead MARIO’S PIZZA. They combined for seven hits and four RBIs. In the top of the first, CASSESA’S grabbed the early lead, 1-0. JACK GIATTINO doubled to ignite CASSESA’S’ offense. A stolen base then moved JACK from second to third. CASSESA’S brought home one run in the second inning, and matched that run total in the Third. In the second, CASSESA’S scored when THEO INHULSEN drew a bases loaded walk, plating JAKE LANDSBERGIS.

 

FIORE’S outlast CHIRICHELLA BOYS in high-scoring affair, 14-11

 

Even in defeat, MICHAEL D’ANTONIO played well for CHIRICHELLA BOYS. MICHAEL got on base four times in the game for CHIRICHELLA BOYS. He singled in the third inning. GRIFFEN HAAS had a busy day at the plate, collecting three extra-base hits. He homered in the third inning, doubled in the second and fifth innings, and singled in the sixth inning. FIORE’S’ GRIFFEN, JOSEPH and ANTONIO CLEMENTE combined for seven hits and seven RBIs. FIORE’S piled on three more runs in the top of the fifth. The inning looked promising, as GRIFFEN doubled, bringing home JOSEPH to kick things off. That was followed up by SAMMY COOPER‘s double, plating GRIFFEN. Three runs in the bottom of the fifth helped CHIRICHELLA BOYS close its deficit to 14-10. A two-run double by ADRIAN PETRI and an RBI single by ISA gave CHIRICHELLA BOYS life. Finally, RAY FIORE induced an inning-ending strike out from MATTHEW STEWART.

 

ELKS offense too much for FIRE DEPT. in 11-2 rout

 

A two-run single by THOMAS SPADAVECCHIA, an RBI single by JORDAN GOMEZ, and a steal of home by JORDAN in the first inning and an RBI single by ANTHONY PERRINOD, a walk by THOMAS, and an RBI single by MICAL AVILES during the second inning supplied the early offense for ELKS.

 

Early lead gives PICCOLO’S easy victory over POLICE DEPT., 14-2

PICCOLO’S scored in the second on A walk by CHRISTOPHER GUZMAN, a two-run double by ZACK OSWALD, a walk by TROY REYNOLDS, a walk by BRANDON JURADO, a steal of home by CHRISTIAN CONTE, a hit by pitch, a walk by ANTHONY DIAZ, a walk by CHRISTOPHER G, a two-run double by ANTHONY CUOZZO, and a walk by CHRISTIAN. CHRISTIAN reached base three times in the game for PICCOLO’S. He scored two runs and had two RBIs. JACOB JARRETT had a hot bat for POLICE DEPT. JACOB went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. He tripled in the third inning.

 

Fourth-inning rally sparks blowout win for FIORE’S, 10-0

 

FIORE’S scored in the fourth on A two-run double by JOSEPH SOBOLOV, an RBI single by GRIFFEN HAAS, a double by ANTONIO CLEMENTE, and a two-run double by JOSH RHODES. SAMMY COOPER struck out 11, paving the way for a FIORE’S win. FIORE’S’ pitcher tossed four innings of shutout ball and allowed only one hit. JOSHUA SAPIRA was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out four.

 

POLICE DEPT. offense too much for RUSSO’S in 16-3 rout

 

A three-run home run by NIAM GILYARD, an error, and during the first inning and a groundout by JACOB JARRETT, a walk by LU RIVERA, a hit by pitch, a walk by DANIEL WEHRHAHN, and a walk by DOMINICK MANZIANO in the second inning fueled POLICE DEPT.’s offense early. NIAM racked up four RBIs on two hits for POLICE DEPT. RUSSO’S was hurt by a number of miscues in the field. RUSSO’S committed four errors which led to two unearned runs for POLICE DEPT. POLICE DEPT. pounded RUSSO’S pitching, as six hitters combined for eight hits, eight RBIs and 14 runs scored.

 

FIRE DEPT. fights back, defeats MAS DEMOLITION, 12-11

 

With the score tied at 11 in the sixth inning, walked, bringing home ANDREW BELLISSIMO. MAX WARBURTON led FIRE DEPT.’s offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. The two teams combined for 23 runs and 13 hits, including five extra base hits. Relief pitchers got their fill of innings during the game, with the opposing managers using seven pitchers in total. FIRE DEPT. starter JACOB WRIGHT struggled, allowing eight in four innings, but the bullpen let up three runs and the offense banged out three to pick up the slack and secure the win for FIRE DEPT. VICTORIA BRAVO got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over two innings. VICTORIA struck out one, walked one and gave up three hits. MAX, ANGEL SANABRIA and PATRICK LUONGO helped lead FIRE DEPT. They combined for two hits and four RBIs.
