First fundraising event for Hoboken Library

Dear Editor:
The Hoboken Public Library Foundation recently held its first fundraising event. “An Evening of Epicurean Delights” was a five-course wine dinner held at Amanda’s Restaurant on Washington Street in Hoboken on May 14th.
The foundation would like to thank all of the members of our community who came out for this very special event to support our library. Additionally, the foundation wishes to thank our gracious hosts, Joyce and Eugene Flinn, for putting together a wonderful evening. Chef Rodney Petersen demonstrated why he’s one of the top chefs on the East Coast. The food was superb and the wines were luscious!
We would also like to offer our thanks to BCB Community Bank, our corporate sponsor for this event. Additional donors included Mary & Angelo Giaccio, Beverly & Steven Hayes, Patricia Pope, Stella Strazdas & Hank Forest, and the Hoboken Gold Exchange. The foundation also thanks Freeholder Anthony Romano for joining us and showing his support for the Library.
The foundation was established in 2012 with the mission of providing long-term, stable support for the resources and services the library requires to meet the evolving educational, cultural, and informational needs and interests of our community. Gifts received by the foundation are also used to support current and future capital requirements for necessary library upkeep and improvements.
The Hoboken Public Library is an historic three-story structure at 500 Park Avenue that was built in 1897. Remarkably, this 120 year old building has almost 75 percent of its original design. It was officially designated a State Historic Site last November and has been nominated as a National Historic Monument.
Almost 280,000 people visited our Library last year! With the continued support of private and corporate donors, we will be able to continue to improve the library and make it even more relevant to our community. Some of the state-of-the-art improvements that will soon be unveiled include a 3D printer, robotics kits, an advanced photo editing station, an advanced video editing station, and educational LEGO kits for our children.
Thanks again, Hoboken, for your continued support of the library!

Sincerely,
JoAnn Serrano
