The JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division Floor Hockey “Championship Tournament” is just one week away and the (6-1) Penguins and the (4-3) Devils were hoping to tune things up for a “Gold Medal” run. Right from the get go, the Penguins hit their stride as three goals by Marek Mickiewicz and a goal a piece by Mackenzie Woods and CeeJay Larino bolted the Pens out to a 5-0 advantage. The Devils were not asleep at the wheel during the Penguins’ five goal burst as Jake Nowak, Alejandro Cifuentes, Megan Feeley and J.P. Egan combined for 12 shots on net for the Devils but James Bajor once again seemed to be playing with a goal repelling force field. Finally, at the halfway point in the bout, the Devils connected for two goals as Jake Nowak tallied a pair of darts. Up 5-2, the Penguins poured in 4 more goals as Colin Woods (1 goal, 1 assist), CeeJay Larino (1 goal), Julian Giron (2 goals), Marek Mickiewicz (2 assists) and Mackenzie Woods (1 assist) leveled the damage. Trailing 9-2, the Devils punched in another goal as Megan Feeley made it 9-3, Penguins. Hoping to right the ship, the Devils sent Ryan Giocoli and Elliott Santana to set up camp in front of the Penguins’ net while Matt Doyle weathered the Penguins’ sharp shooters. The move led to shoots on net for the Devils but no points as the Penguins ended the fray with a three goal flurry by CeeJay Larino (1 goal) and Julian Giron (2 goals) to lock-up a 12-3 victory.
