Nowak, Egan ignite Devils

With just two weeks remaining in the JCC of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Sr. Division regular season, every win is precious as the (3-3) Devils locked horns with the (1-5) Islanders. Using their fast pace offense and pinpoint passing, the Devils stormed out to a 2-0 lead as the “Twin Engines” J.P. Egan and Jake Nowak worked their magic as Egan assisted Nowak on two scoring strikes. The Islanders cut the Devils lead to 2-1 as Logan Mazziota assisted Jared Radil on a scoring backhand whip. At the halfway point, the Devils began to pull away as Jake Nowak assisted Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes on two net rockers followed by Nowak hitting the “Hat Trick” mark with his third goal off an assist by Ryan Goicoli as the Devils built a commanding 5-1 lead. Never known for calling it a day before the final whistle, the Islanders fought back with two goals as Jared Radil and Drew Radil A.K.A. the “Radilators” drilled in goals while Malachi Smith and Jake Peregrin notched assists. Still up by two goals at 5-3, the Devils’ Jake Nowak, added a much-needed insurance goal to make it a 6-3 Devils’ advantage. While the Devils’ defense, led by Matt Doyle and Elliott Santana held on for dear life, the Islanders’ offense ramped up their charge with John Bautista, Natallyah Teixeira, and Jake Peregrin pounding shots on net. The Islanders finally earned a break as Malachi Smith zipped in his 10th goal of the season to make it 6-4 Devils with just five minutes remaining. The last five minutes quickly became a heavy weight brawl as both squads went all out and toe to toe but even with their empty net tempting shots from the Devils, the Islanders extra attacker and offense were kept at bay as the Devils held on to a 6-4 victory.
