Dear Editor:
On behalf of the entire Union City School District, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Union City Police Department and all the other law enforcement agencies that helped to track down and apprehend the intruder who recently entered Washington School.
Immediately after we were made aware of the incident, the Police Department and other law enforcement agencies began an exhaustive search utilizing all available resources and personnel to find the intruder, who was eventually arrested by Union City Police in Newark.
The intruder briefly entered-and then left-Washington School without incident on May 22.
In addition to Union City Police Department and Police Chief Richard Molinari, we would like to thank the following law enforcement agencies who assisted in the search: Weehawken Police Department, Hoboken Police Department, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
I would also like to thank many parents and residents, as well as school and city personnel, who offered their assistance and support during this effort.
It is unfortunate that this incident occurred, but the collective effort of our entire community and of surrounding communities shows that as long as we all continue to work together, we can ensure the safety of our community.
Sincerely,
Stanley Sanger
Superintendent of Schools
