Feeley, Hooks key Bruins playoff win

The JCC of Bayonne’s Jr. Divison floor hockey playoffs got underway with the (4-3-1) Bruins taking on the (2-5-1) Red Wings. The first 15 minutes stayed scoreless as the Red Wings’ Michael Egan and the Bruins’ Declan McCormick ruled the crease and repelled every offensive dart. After adjusting their offense game plan, the Bruins racked up 4 rapid fire goals in five minutes as Kasper Hooks (2 goals, 2 assists) and Megan Feeley (2 goals, 2 assists) lit up the scoreboard. Up against the ropes, the Red Wings fired back as Michael Egan centered a pass to Jake Peregrin who made it 4-1 with a bullseye strike. Returning to their heavy hitters, the Bruins struck again as Hooks assisted Feeley on her third goal of the bout. Trailing 5-1, the Red Wings added some much needed fire-power as Sebastian Valles assisted Michael Egan on two net jarring blasts to cut the Bruins’ lead to 5-3. Back in the hunt, the Red Wings’ defense stiffened as Michael “Stonewall” McCollum, Jordan Neustein, Alejandra Valles, and Victor Mendolaro did their best to slow the Bruins’ fast break offense. The scoring drought finally ended as Caitlin Feeley railed a long distance pass to Megan Feeley who cashed in to make it 6-3, Bruins. Not ready to go quietly, the Red Wings took advantage of a power play and once again cut the Bruins’ lead to two at 6-4 as Michael Egan notched a “Hat Trick” with his third goal of the game. With less than five minutes remaining, the Bruins ramped up their attack as Arya Deshmukh held down the defensive zone to help set up Megan Feeley’s league leading 39th and 40th goal of the season as the Bruins advanced to the “Gold Medal” round with an 8-4 victory. Although disappointed, the Red Wings wrapped up their 2014 campaign by earning “Bronze Medals.”
