Annual Memorial Day Parade scheduled for Wednesday
Hoboken’s Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Wednesday, May 21. The parade will assemble at 6 p.m. and step off at 6:30 p.m. from City Hall, First and Washington streets, and proceed north on Washington Street to the reviewing stand on 10th and Washington streets in front of the Hoboken Elks Lodge.
The Hoboken Memorial Day Parade is the oldest continuous parade in New Jersey. This year the Grand Marshal is WWII Veteran Vincent Wassman, who will be honored by the Elks following the parade.
CarePoint Health to hold lecture series on women and strokes
In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, CarePoint Health announced this week the next event in the Lunch and Learn free lecture series: “Women and Strokes.” The community is invited for lunch and a fascinating lecture to learn about how women are impacted by strokes and how they can stay healthy through measures to reduce their risk.
According to the National Stroke Association, strokes kill twice as many women as breast cancer every year. In fact, 425,000 women suffer from stroke each year – 55,000 more than men – and 70 percent of women are not aware they are more likely than men to have a stroke. These and other important topics will be explored to educate and empower women to take charge of their health, recognize the signs of stroke and reduce their risks.
The CarePoint Health Lunch and Learn program is part of an ongoing series that brings together community members to learn about the specialties, research and critical work being performed at Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital. Each event will feature a prominent health care leader and will include a free lunch for attendees.
The presentation, “Women and Strokes” will take place at the following locations and times:
Bayonne Medical Center (Monday, May 19, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Hoboken University Medical Center (Thursday, May 29, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
Concert at Hudson School scheduled for today, May 18
Local performers Pamela Ross and Friends announced that the group’s new show, “Haunted Music,” an afternoon of magnificent and mysterious musical favorites from Beethoven to Broadway, will premier at the Hudson School on Sunday, May 18.
Bring your imaginations, paper and crayons, friends, neighbors, and families, and join the group for an hour or two.
The event takes place Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. at the Hudson School Theatre Space, 601 Park Ave. Admission is free.
