Hoboken Green Fair scheduled for this Saturday

The City of Hoboken Green Team will host the 3rd Annual Green Fair on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the event of rain, the fair will be rescheduled to Sunday, May 18. The fair is held in Church Square Park, at the Fourth and Garden Street entrance.
The Green Fair will feature live music and food vendors. According to a statement from the city, the fair is “intended to introduce sustainable lifestyle choices to the community, raise awareness regarding environmental issues, and demonstrate how consumers can reduce their impact on the earth by selecting sustainable, eco-friendly products and services.”
The fair’s activities will include a Rain Barrel Demonstration Table, re-usable tote bag giveaway, a plastic bag drop-off bin for residents to deposit their unwanted plastic bags, a compost bin for residents to drop off their compost materials.
Vendors who specialize in permeable pavers for stormwater management will be on hand for residents exploring sustainable options they can make on their own property. Zipcar will be providing an e-waste collection service (existing members will receive a $15 credit and residents who sign up on Saturday will receive a discounted membership).
There will be a wine tasting of local New Jersey wines and “Park Bench Poetry and Open Mic” show.
Green businesses or non-profits whose mission aligns with environmental sustainability are invited to participate in the Green Fair. The Green Team is also reaching out to involve the local arts community. Interested vendors can submit the online registration form at www.hobokennj.org/greenfair and contact Christopher Brown at cbrown@hobokennj.gov with any questions. The final day for registration is Thursday, May 15, 2014.
