High Tech High School places second in natural resources science competition

NORTH BERGEN – A team of students from High Tech High School in North Bergen placed second out of 33 schools in the annual New Jersey Envirothon.
New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher announced the winners of the statewide competition on Saturday, May 3 at the New Jersey School of Conservation of Montclair State University in Branchville.
The teams competed on knowledge of natural resources-related topics, including soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife ecology and a current environmental issue. This year’s theme was “Sustainable Local Agriculture/Locally Grown.”
Last year, High Tech High School placed third in the competition. The winning school for the fifth year in a row was Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences (MATES) in Manahawkin. — Art Schwartz
