Its week three for the JCC of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Jr. Division and the (0-1-1) Red Wings and the (1-1-1) Bruins were certainly primed for an offensive shoot out. The Red Wings got the fireworks underway as Alejandra Valles assisted Jake Peregrin on the game’s first goal. Minutes later, the Bruins’ fast break offense caught fire as team co-captains, Megan Feeley (3 goals, 1 assist) and Declan McCormick (1 goal, 2 assists), blistered the nets for 4 goals and a 4-1 Bruins advantage. The lead was soon cut in half as the Red Wings’ Jake Peregrin nailed a 20-foot dart off an assist from Michael Egan. Up 4-2, the Bruins relaunched their fast break attack as a key defensive stop by Kasper Hooks help to set up a scoring surge as McCormick once again assisted Feeley on her fourth scoring gem of the bout. Trailing 5-2, the Red Wings’ Jake Peregrin landed two long distance rockets to narrow the Bruins’ lead to 5-4 while Jordan Neustein and Sebastian Valles racked up assists. With the Red Wings back in the hunt, the Bruins got some much-needed breathing room as Declan McCormick nailed two quick goals off assists by Caitlin and Megan Feeley. Ever circling overhead, the Red Wings struck back as Michael Egan cashed in off a pass from Sebastian Valles to cut the Bruins’ lead to 7-5. While the Red Wings would not back down, the Bruins poured in another goal as McCormick assisted Megan Feeley on her fifth goal of the game making it 8-5 with just 10 minutes remaining. As both squads hunkered down for a standoff, the Red Wings’ offense exploded for five straight goals as Jake Peregrin (3 goals), Michael Egan (2 goals, 1 assist), Michael “Stonewall” McCollum (2 assists), Sebastian Valles (1 assist), and Jordan Neustein (1 assist) lit up the Bruins’ defensive ranks. Down 10-8, the Bruins did land the final blow as Feeley assisted McCormick on his fourth goal but the stunned Bruins fell prey to miscues as the Red Wings prevailed 10-9. While the points piled up, a special mention must be given to the Red Wings’ Victor Mendolaro and the Bruins’ Arya Deshmukh for their iron-willed efforts at net.
