Ryan Guthrie’s RBI single drove in Alex Alvarez with the go-ahead run when Bayonne scored four in the top of the fifth inning to earn a 6-4 victory over St. Peter’s Prep, No. 8 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, in Jersey City. Alvarez was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI and Zach Stachniewicz later added a two-run double for Bayonne. Winning pitcher Frank DiPillo struck out three in 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (one earned), six hits, and two walks with three strikeouts. Neal Kiniery went the final 2 2/3 innings for the save.
Bayonne (1) at Cranford (0) – Baseball
Brian Jozwiak drove in Dillon Tyler for the game’s only run in the top of the eighth inning as Bayonne defeated Cranford, 1-0 in eight innings, in Cranford.
Winning pitcher Neal Kiniery struck out four in 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and a walk for Bayonne and Jake McNamara was 2-for-4.
Bayonne (7) at Dickinson (2) – Baseball
Frank DiPillo and Zach Stachniewicz each had an RBI double and Brian Jozwiak finished with three hits to lead Bayonne to a 7-2 decision over Dickinson in Jersey City.
