HOBOKEN – As of noon on Tuesday, the Hoboken Police Dept. had not released any information about the identity of a man’s body that was pulled from the Hudson River near Hoboken Terminal on Monday night around 5 p.m. The police did not return multiple phone calls about the situation.
A report at NJ.com said the police were saying mum pending the results of an autopsy to be conducted on Tuesday.
That examination could tell whether there was any foul play involved.
It is the policy of the Hoboken Police Department not to reveal the identities of crime victims until family members have been notified.
ABC News reported late on Monday night, “The body was discovered in the water by ferry slips behind the Hoboken Lackawanna Terminal. It was taken to the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday.” The report said a passerby noticed the body around 5 p.m.
It was not immediately known whether the person was from the Hudson County area or elsewhere. Two weeks ago, a woman’s body was found floating near Jersey City, and it turned out to have been a person who had jumped off the George Washington Bridge the day before.
Wednesday will mark a month since Hoboken jogger Andrew Jarzyk, 27, disappeared after running near Pier A in the wee hours of a rainy Sunday morning. The terminal is right next to Pier A.
A Facebook page set up to help find Jarzyk did not reveal any new information Tuesday morning.
