“Mamma’s Trilogy,” which Hoboken filmmaker Frank Gigante describes as “a soft horror film,” will screen as part of the Bergenfield Film Festival on Thursday, May 1. It will be presented at 6:15 p.m. at Bow Tie Cinemas, 58 S. Washington Ave., Bergenfield.
Consisting of three darkly comic short films, the movie mocks stereotypical characters and cites Sergio Leone’s “The Good the Bad & The Ugly” as an influence.
There is only one person that the cold blooded killer protagonist fears – his Italian Mamma!
Tormented by his mother’s ways, he makes his family and friends victims of his twisted killings, taking his bizarre situation to another level and dimension.
The story of a son’s greed for money and a mother who forgives her son even after his actions put him over the limit, “Frank’s” voyage leads us to find out that disrespecting your Italian mother can get you into more trouble than having a gambling debt.
Included by Gigante in the cast of the very low budget trilogy project were a bunch of Hudson County friends, including John McKnight of the Failla Memorial Home in Hoboken and Lou from Mr. L’s Barber Shop, and various members of the San Giacomo Club.
The festival
The Bergenfield Film Festival’s goal is to celebrate independent and mainstream cinema and bring it to the northern New Jersey area. The BFF aims to support filmmakers based in New Jersey as well as the world over. It is held each year, one night only, within five separate screening rooms inside the Bow Tie Cinemas in Bergenfield.
Filmmakers from all over the world have come to the festival over the last eight years to see theirs and others’ movies screened. It is run by the Bergenfield Film Coalition (a non-profit organization).
General admission is $12 per person and senior and student admission is $10 per person.
