New Hoboken graffiti complains about ‘Yuppie’s’

HOBOKEN — Ever since Hoboken started gentrifying in the 1980s, “Yuppies” has been a common epithet. It even became part of the title of a book of letters to the Hoboken Reporter, published in the 1980s. While it’s not heard as much today, this graffiti that appeared recently on Eighth Street in Hoboken showed that there’s a new, related sentiment in town. At least, in one person’s opinion.
The person does need to brush up on apostrophe use and “to” vs. “too.”
But are the “Yuppies” in the mile-square city eating too much? Sounds like a boon for the local restaurant industry, old and new…
So come enjoy the eateries and taverns of Hoboken, and then walk around later for exercise — it’s a very walkable city.
