Political vandalism is bad for Bayonne

To the Editor:

I read with interest Ms. Gorbacz’s letter in the March 26 Community News. While I know nothing about the type of telephone call she received, I support fully her statement that dirty politics is bad for our city.
On Sunday, March 23, I was very upset to come upon a gentleman trying to repair a vandalized “Davis for Mayor” sign on Avenue E. I stopped my car and learned from him that many Davis signs had been destroyed; my subsequent travels around Bayonne confirmed this.
While I am a Davis/La Pelusa supporter, I oppose the vandalism of any candidate’s signs. I hope that Mayor Smith, formerly of the Police Department, will convey firmly to his own supporters and campaign workers that it is unlawful to destroy others’ property. I also hope that my own home (which has a political sign, in accordance with free-speech rights) will be respected and not vandalized by Smith supporters or any others during this political season.
