The JCC of Bayonne’s Jr. Division Indoor Soccer “Championship Tournament” got underway with the (3-5) Knights taking on the (1-7) Dragons in a playoff bout. The Knights quickly rolled out to a commanding lead as Angel Martinez (4 goals, 1 assist), Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes (2 goals), Aaliyana Cifuentes (1 goal, 2 assists), and Josue Belber (2 assists) piled up goals and assists. Trailing 7-0, the Dragons turned to team captain Matt Miceli to light a fire and Miceli responded with three net jarring goals as Rohan Banoor (2) and Anthony Frasier (1) notched assists. Aiding in the Dragons’ comeback fury was the incredible goal tending effort by Arya Deshmukh who hauled in 14 saves for the Dragons. The game’s final five minutes took on a frantic pace but thanks to key defensive plays by the Knights’ Alanis Concepcion and Raquel Belber the Knights held on to advance to the Championship round with a 7-3 victory. For the lion hearted Dragons, their 2014 season concluded with the presentation of this years “Bronze” medal.
