Dear Editor:
I’m concerned about the potential safety issue which is occurring outside my home which is right across the street from our municipal high school in Union City.
Motorized carts which belong to the Board of Education are now being used on our local street to transport young men who are apparently able bodied a distance of several blocks.
What concerns me and my neighbors is that these vehicles which don’t have license plates are being driven on busy roads including Kennedy Blvd.
As a longtime Union City taxpayer I am severely troubled about any liability issues should there be an accident.
I’m told that a gentleman named Colin Valdivia who has the title of transportation services for our local Board of Education at an annual salary of $71,000 is responsible for the oversight.
I hope this letter results in the creation of a policy which can be brought about to insure the well being of those of us who are neighbors of this important facility of learning.
