Cotter kids’ heroics rescue Comets

With a perfect 8-0 regular season record just one win away, the (7-0) Comets had all they could handle when they took on the (2-4-1) Sonics in a JCC of Bayonne Indoor Soccer Sr. Division slugfest. Inspite of each squad’s firepower, the nets stayed off limits for most of the bout as the Comets’ Alexandro Gonzalez, Brayden Cotter, and Brian Cotter tried to add to their league leading point totals while the Sonics’ James Johnson, Allen McComb, Jared Radil, and Alejandro Cifuentes played “bombs away”. The scoring drought finally ended twenty five minutes into the game when Colin Woods assisted Brayden Cotter on his hard earned sixteenth goal of the season. Down 1-0, the Sonics’ Joshua Verzosa came within a fraction of tying the fray with a fireball from half court but the post held firm. With the Sonics hot on their heels, the Comets’ well skilled defense, spearheaded by Mackenzie Woods, Chloe Gregory, Michael Lago, and Elliott Santana kept the surging Sonics incheck. With the game still on the line, the Sonics put another scare into the Comets ranks as Drew Radil and Brandon Ferreira each drilled howitzer shots on net but once again the Comets’ Alexandro Gonzalez squelched the threat. Finally, with less than a minute remaining, the Comets’ Brian Cotter nailed down the 2-0 victory with a scoring dagger off an assist from Chloe Gregory as the Comets stayed undefeated.
