Freeholders urge DOT to hold community meetings on Pulaski Skyway closing
The Hudson County Board of Freeholders have urged the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to mitigate the impact of the Pulaski Skyway closure in areas of Jersey City and to hold community meetings in the impacted areas.
On April 12, the northbound travel lanes on Route 1 & 9 Pulaski Skyway will close for approximately 24 months while the New Jersey Department of Transportation rehabilitates the bridge deck.
The impacted areas of Route 1 & 9 in Jersey City, Communipaw Avenue, Duncan Avenue, Sip Avenue, Broadway, and areas in the Heights, Downtown, and Journal Square will also be affected.
These areas already are subjected to a high volume of traffic and congestion that often result in traffic delays. The additional traffic from the Pulaski Skyway detour threatens to reduce traffic flow to a standstill at peak hours and will likely result in a substantial overflow of vehicular traffic onto local roadways. The NJDOT did not hold community meetings or hearings in any areas affected by this closure.
Freeholder Chairman Jose Munoz and the Board of Freeholders petitioned the NJDOT to focus its attention specifically on the impact of traffic to the areas affected by the Pulaski Skyway closure. They are also hoping for community meetings in those affected areas in advance of the closure to fashion traffic mitigation solutions.
St. Dominic Academy to hold 5K and mile race
On Saturday, March 15, Saint Dominic Academy will hold its 17th Annual Spring Thaw 5K and One Mile Race. It will start at 9:30 a.m. in Liberty State Park. Proceeds will benefit the Academy’s sports programs. A kiddie run will be held after the main events.
The one-mile run/walk which has a $20 fee starts at 9:30 a.m. The 5K run which has a $10 fee starts at 10 a.m. The race is held on a USATF Certified course. The kiddie run and a commemorative t-shirt are included in the fee.

Spring Fest on March 21
Creative Grove Spring Fest on the plaza will be held on March 21 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Grove Street PATH station plaza.
DJ Pastiche opens up the season, along with live musicians, and the long awaited “Paint-the fridge,” Uta Brauser’s interactive public art project, and original makers and artists from the metro area that include silk screen prints, art, fashion, jewelry, furniture, plants, metal works, vintage records, vintage clothing and very original designs. Chabad of Hoboken announces annual Grand Purim Party
Chabad of Hoboken’s annual Grand Purim Party will be held at the Boys & Girls Club, 123 Jefferson St., on Sunday, March 16.
This year’s theme – Purim in Musical Land – will feature a delicious, buffet dinner, cotton candy, popcorn and an open bar for adults. Great entertainment by Imagination Playhouse includes music, magic and balloon shaping.
Doors open at 3 p.m. Entertainment will follow at 3:15 p.m. followed by the reading of the Megillah and a scrumptious buffet dinner, music and dancing, traditional hamentashen and lots of fun. All are welcome to join regardless of affiliation or background.
Tickets cost $25 per adult and $15 a child/ Stevens students at the door, $18 per adult, $10 per child in advance.

Summer Dawn Hortillosa play premiers at Stagefest at The Loew’
On March 22, 68 Productions will present “Three Bites” by Summer Dawn Hortillosa. The play will premiere at the second annual STAGEfest at the Loew’s at the historic Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre.
The show follows the rise and fall of a relationship over the course of three meals – the first coffee date, a pivotal breakfast and a fateful dinner. With each bite, Drew (Rafael Cruz) and Adrienne (played by Hortillosa herself) struggle to get to know each other, and themselves. The play is an exploration of trust, power and love. Liliane Wolf also stars as Bettie, a waitress at a retro diner. Hortillosa directs.
This is Hortillosa’s second piece in STAGEfest; her play “Before, After and Always” was a huge standing-room-only hit at the festival last year.
“Three Bites” premieres Saturday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at STAGEfest at the Loew’s in the upstairs lobby of the Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre, 54 Journal Square, Jersey City. Admission is $15 on Saturday, $12 for seniors/students, and gives you access to all stages. Saturday night passes for access from 6 to 11 p.m. are $10. All-festival passes are available online in advance for $25, $20 for students and seniors.

Learning Community Charter School holds gala
Learning Community Charter School (LCCS) will hold its 6th Annual Spring Gala on April 4 from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Beacon’s Art Deco Great Room in Jersey City. At the event, Learning Community Charter School will award its longstanding supporter, Paul Silverman, a local real estate developer and philanthropist, the prestigious Championship Award.

Vote for a winner in Margaret Hague t-shirt contest
Five designs – ranging from a newborn’s footprints to a silhouette of a pregnant woman set against the façade of the old hospital – were selected as finalists in the “Born at the Margaret Hague” T-shirt logo design contest recently.
The public will now have the chance to vote for their favorite entry by visiting www.libertyhealth.org/foundation to view the five designs and then send an email to MargaretHAgue@libertyhcs.org indicating which graphic design is their favorite. Martha Stewart, former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey, and Frank Sinatra Jr. are among the more than 350,000 babies who were born at The Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City from 1931 – 1979. The hospital, established during the administration of Jersey City Mayor Frank Hague and named after his mother, has a long and storied history of famous births.
The hospital’s legacy continues through Jersey City Medical Center where the medical center on the waterfront continues to welcome Jersey City’s newest “Margaret Hague Babies.”

The event will be held on Friday evening, May 16th at Zeppelin Hall Biergarten and Restaurant, 88 Liberty View Drive in Jersey City.
