Bayonne Fire Department responds to mid-day blaze

BAYONNE — City firefighters called to a Lincoln Parkway house were greeted with flames racing up the back of the structure through the walls.
The Bayonne Fire Department had responded to reports of a “smoke condition in the building” at 26 Lincoln Pkwy. on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 11:58 a.m., according to Bayonne Fire Chief Gregory Rogers
“Arriving units discovered fire at the first floor rear exterior of the building, traveling up through the interior walls,” Rogers said. “Firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior fire that was fueled by asphalt shingle, and further opened up the interior walls to expose fire that had extended to the second and third floor.”
There were no reported injuries.
The structure suffered fire damage to the rear façade and interior walls, as well as smoke and water damage, according to Rogers.
Thirteen tenants from the building were displaced, and were seeking shelter with family and friends.
The fire investigator’s preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated at the rear of the building, adjacent to an attached deck, Rogers said.
